Abstract
In this article, the concept of terrorism is described in detail through an interdisciplinary examination of its defining features, history, as well as trends and tactics throughout its long existence. Different types of terrorist groups are described, and motivations for terrorism are discussed based on classic and current research in the field. The relationship between terrorism and media is also discussed, with an emphasis on the burgeoning role of the internet and social media. Trends in terrorism studies are highlighted.
