Abstract
The problems faced for giving undue emphasis on unnecessary enhancements to softwares are discussed. It is found that the costs of unreliable software are often distributed over a great many users who do not not easily aggregate their frustrations into economic impact. A survey done by NIST recently estimated that software bugs cost the U.S. economy $60 billion per year. It is found that simple softwares, without unnecessary enhancements, turn out to be more reliable in terms of costs, time, and reboots.
