Theory of polarization enhancement in epitaxial BaTiO3/SrTiO3 superlattices

Abstract

The spontaneous polarization of epitaxial BaTiO3/SrTiO3 superlattices was studied. Density functional theory was used. Results showed that polarization can be enhanced in perovskite oxide superlattices which is due to strain effect, induced by epitaxial growth and internal electric fields.
