Thermo-optic characteristics and switching power limit of slow-light silicon-on-insulator photonic crystal structure

Abstract

We study the influence of key structural/optical parameters on silicon-on-insulator photonic crystal thermo-optic switching structures. Our semi-analytic theory agrees well with finite-element simulations and experiments. Switching with sub-milliwatt power is shown viable.
