Abstract

A modification of the array that provides such a controlling parameter and, at the same time, allows to solve the model and compute the properties of the topological insulator was proposed. The main physical idea was to construct a system where the kinetic energy gain of the half-vortex thv was parametrically smaller than the bandwidth of the full vortex tfv. Under such conditions, Bose condensation of full vortices was energetically favorable, whereas half-vortices stay uncondensed and have a finite excitation gap.
