Abstract

An ultrasonic approach is proposed which is capable of measuring all thermodynamic and kinetic quantities associated with the syn-anti conformational equilibrium in nucleosides. Application of the method to adenosine indicates that both syn and anti regions are significantly populated at room temperature. Together with high resolution nmr results the proposed method promises to lead to a precise definition of the syn-anti conformational problem in solution.
