Abstract

The well-characterized vacancy-ordered structure of (Formula presented) can be understood within a simple electrostatic-energy model. The results provide valuable insight into how vacancies induce local structural relaxations, and are qualitatively transferable to cation vacancies in other intercalated metal fullerides.
