Abstract

Van der Waals complexes of the bichromophore spirobifluorene with argon, nitrogen, water, methanol, and acetonitrile were studied in a supersonic jet. The 1:1 complexes have two origin transitions which are shifted to the red and to the blue of the bare bichromophore origin. These spectral shifts are discussed in terms of the dispersive interactions in a three-body cluster. Larger argon clusters are identified by broad features which are caused by the spectral overlap of many origin transition. A model of vibronic coupling is suggested to explain the broadened features in some of the spectra.
