Versatile and convenient routes to functionalized poly(ferrocenylsilanes)

Abstract

Functionalized organometallic polymers are reported. Direct substitution reactions on poly(ferrocenylsilanes) using nucleophiles with protected amines led to amine-functionalized polymers. The use of protecting group and monomer substitution strategies were found to be compatible with ring-opening polymerization protocols allowing the synthesis of high polymers with amino, bromo, ester, or quarternary ammonium functionalities.
