Abstract

The research efforts of the Xyleme team, intending to provide database services over the extensible markup language (XML) data of the Web, were summarized. The team was concerned with providing a scalable architecture, efficient storage of huge quantities of the XML data, XML query processing with full-text and structural indexing. The data acquisition strategies were provided to build the repository and keep it up-to date. The team was concerned with change control of services such as query subscription and semantic data integration to free users when expressing queries.
